2013 Winners of the Junior Bonspiel - Central Division

The winners of the 2013 Central Division/Competitive Division were from Portage, the host club. Congratulations to the Bear Rink - Madison Bear (skip), Leah Harvey (vice), Lani Dubberstein (second), AnnMarie Dubberstein (lead), and Keagan Garrigan (fifth).  Congratulations are also extended to the winners of the 2013 Developmental Division from Stevens Point - Rachel Kawleski (skip), Suzanna Viau (vice) Sydnie Schnieder (second), Krista Domaszek (lead), and Delaney Lawlis (fifth).  For a list of all event results from the Central Division, click here.

2013 Winners of the Junior Bonspiel - Eastern Division

The Utica Curling Club hosted this year's Junior Bonspiel/Eastern Division.  The winners of the 2013 Competitive Division were the Broomstones 1 team of Jack Kelly (skip), Chase Sinnett (vice), Justin Arndt (second), and Clayton Kincaid (lead).  The winners of the 2013 Developmental Division were from Albany - Deanna Ryder (skip), Caitlyn Ball (vice), Daisy Ball (second), and Samantha Silverman (lead).  There were 6 teams competing over all and everyone had a great time, curling, eating, and partying.  Congratulations to the winning rinks.     

2012 Winners of the Junior Bonspiel-Central Division were both from the Midland Curling Club

It was a cold day at the Exmoor Country Club but two teams from Midland Michigan were hot, taking top honors in both the Competitive and Developmental events. For the Competitive event, Wes Pederson, Aaron Carlson and Brandon Wichman won, with Logan Cook Wesley Swartz, Will Heckbarth and Marcus Minardi winning Developmental honors. Congratulations to a great event!

Three USWCA Sponsored Junior Bonspiels Set for this 2012 Season!

The USWCA is sponsoring three regional junior bonspiels this season in order to promote interclub curling among juniors. The USWCA will provide winner and runner up pins for four events as well as a traveling trophy for the first event winners.

This season's bonspiels will be held at the following clubs:

 

  • Duluth Curling Club in Duluth MN for The Bert Payne January 20-22, 2012. Contact Heidi Bauman at curlinmom@gmail.com
  • Exmoor Country Club, in Highland Park, IL on January 21-22, 2012. Contact Russ Brown at rcblf@comcast.net
  • Cape Cod Curling Club, in Falmouth, MA on January 27-29, 2012.
USWCA bonspiels are open to teams of juniors from the United States (under 21) and from Canada (under 19). Teams are open format (any combination of males and females). Bonspiel participants do not have to belong to USWCA member clubs. Teams can enter a USWCA junior bonspiel from any region. Teams may also play in more than one USWCA bonspiel in a single season.

Travel assistance is available for those teams that travel more than 150 miles by car or more than 300 miles by bus, rail, or air. More information regarding travel reimbursement is available on the USWCA website, (Curling Development Fund).


The USWCA is looking for member clubs who are willing to host junior bonspiels in the coming seasons. The host club can elect to have the USWCA sponsor an existing spiel, it is not necessary to add an additional event to the calendar.

12th Year for the USWCA-sponsored Junior Bonspiels!

For the twelfth year, the USWCA is proud to sponsor Junior Bonspiels as a way to promote and support the growth of our nation's youth curling. Three bonspiels will be hosted across the United States in the USWCA East, Wisconsin/Central and West Regions.

During the 2010-2011 curling season, the junior bonspiels will be hosted by the following USWCA member clubs:

East Region:Nutmeg Curling Club in Bridgeport, Connecticut - February 26-27, 2011

Wisconsin/Central Regions:Portage Curling Club in Portage, Wisconsin - January 22-23, 2011

West Region:St. Paul Curling Club in St. Paul, Minnesota - February 12-13, 2011

The Results of the First of Three Junior Bonspiels this Season!

Broomstones had 20 teams participating - 16 competitive and 4 developmental/recreational. It was a fabulous time - we housed 46 junior curlers and guaranteed them 4 games. Most teams were able to get in 5 games starting Friday late afternoon. The winners received a new designed pin created especially for the Junior Bonspiel.

 


Winning competitive team: 2009 winners of the USWCA-sponsored Broomstones Junior Bonspiel held at Broomstones on November 20-22nd was Broomstones I: (l-r) Stephen Dropkin (skip), Korey Dropkin (vice), Tom Howell (second - Plainfield) and Ryan McMakin (lead - Potomac).






The winning recreational team was: Joe Sipzner (lead - Albany Curling Club); Nick Glaser (second - Broomstones Curling Club); Kent Suslavich (vice - Nutmeg Curling Club) and Kyle Reedy (skip - Albany Curling Club).


The next USWCA-sponsored junior bonspiels this year will be held in:

Tenth Year for the USWCA Sponsored Junior Bonspiels

For the tenth year, the USWCA is again sponsoring junior bonspiels as a way of promoting and supporting the growth of youth curling. Three bonspiels has been hosted across the United States in the East, Central and West regions.


The clubs hosting the junior bonspiels the 2009-2010 curling season are: Broomstones (East - November 20-22, 2009), Madison (Central - December 12-13, 2009), and Capital/Bismarck (West - January 8-10, 2010). Travel reimbursement is availavle to help defray the cost for junior teams traveling to these bonspiels.


During the 2008-2009 curling season, the junior bonspiels were hosted by Fargo-Moorhead (6 teams), Portage (15 teams - competitive and developmental divisions) and Potomac (9 teams). Thirty teams in all participated in these events!

USWCA Sponsored Junior Bonspiels held across the U.S. in 2009

The 2009 USWCA-sponsored Junior Bonspiels were held across the U.S. in the Fargo-Moorhead (ND), Portage (WI) and Potomac (MD) Curling Clubs, representing the West, Central and East Regions, respectively. This year marked the tenth year that the United States Women's Curling Association (USWCA) has sponsored the junior bonspiels, as a way of promoting and supporting the growth of junior curling. A total of 30 teams participated last month and attracted both developmental teams, as well as competitive teams soon to be competing at Junior Nationals in Devil's Lake, North Dakota on February 7th-14th.


For the West Region, the Junior Bonspiel was held at the Fargo-Moorhead Curling Club on January 23-25th. Six teams participated in a double-elimination format. Three of the teams will be representing North Dakota at Junior Nationals in Devil's Lake, ND. The winning rink was from the Fargo-Moorhead Curling Club and skipped by Ann Podoll, with Christina Lammers at vice, Vanessa Manlove at second and Casey Hatlevoll at lead. The first event runner-up was skipped by Lauren Kirkeby, with Rachel Tharalson at vice, Jesa Legacie at second and Anna Hopkins at lead.


For the Central Region, the Junior Bonspiel was held in Portage, WI at the Portage Curling Club also on January 23-25th. Fifteen teams participated, including 8 teams in a competitive division and 7 in a developmental division. The winner of the first event, in the competitive division, was a Portage, WI rink skipped by Zack Oszman, with John Pape at vice, Nathan Considine at second and Ethan Bennet at lead. The first event runner-up was a Madison rink skipped by Blake Morton, with Marcus Fonger at vice, Tommy Juszcyk at second and Calvin Weber at lead.


In the Developmental Division, the winning rink was from Madison, WI and skipped by Jason Funk, with Rob Shlimovitz at vice, Dan Gabower at second and Nathan Krumpos at lead.


In the East Region, the Junior Bonspiel was held at Potomac Curling Club in Laurel, MD on January 16th-18th. Nine teams participated including teams from the Potomac, Philadelphia, Plainfield and Schenectady Curling Clubs. The winning team was from Potomac and skipped by Hal Erickson, with Doug Chalmers at vice, Jeff Vanarsdall at second and Ryan McMakin at lead.


We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Fargo-Moorhead, Portage and Potomac Curling Clubs for doing such an excellent job in hosting these successful events across the U.S.! As we bring these events to a close, we are looking for three new sites to host next year's USWCA-sponsored Junior Bonspiels.
