USWCA Sponsored Junior Bonspiels held across the U.S. in 2009

The 2009 USWCA-sponsored Junior Bonspiels were held across the U.S. in the Fargo-Moorhead (ND), Portage (WI) and Potomac (MD) Curling Clubs, representing the West, Central and East Regions, respectively. This year marked the tenth year that the United States Women's Curling Association (USWCA) has sponsored the junior bonspiels, as a way of promoting and supporting the growth of junior curling. A total of 30 teams participated last month and attracted both developmental teams, as well as competitive teams soon to be competing at Junior Nationals in Devil's Lake, North Dakota on February 7th-14th.

For the West Region, the Junior Bonspiel was held at the Fargo-Moorhead Curling Club on January 23-25th. Six teams participated in a double-elimination format. Three of the teams will be representing North Dakota at Junior Nationals in Devil's Lake, ND. The winning rink was from the Fargo-Moorhead Curling Club and skipped by Ann Podoll, with Christina Lammers at vice, Vanessa Manlove at second and Casey Hatlevoll at lead. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Fargo-Moorhead, Portage and Potomac Curling Clubs for doing such an excellent job in hosting these successful events across the U.S.! As we bring these events to a close, we are looking for three new sites to host next year's USWCA-sponsored Junior Bonspiels.

Please remember that the USWCA provides a trophy and pins for the event, as well as other financial support if needed to ensure that junior teams can participate.
