USWCA Sponsored Junior Bonspiels

The USWCA tries to sponsor three regional junior bonspiels each season in order to promote interclub curling among juniors. The USWCA will provide winner and runner up pins for four events as well as a traveling trophy for the first event winners.

USWCA bonspiels are open to teams of juniors from the United States (under 21) and from Canada (under 19). Teams are open format (any combination of males and females). Bonspiel participants do not have to belong to USWCA member clubs. Teams can enter a USWCA junior bonspiel from any region. Teams may also play in more than one USWCA bonspiel in a single season.

The USWCA is looking for member clubs who are willing to host junior bonspiels in the coming seasons. The host club can elect to have the USWCA sponsor an existing spiel, it is not necessary to add an additional event to the calendar.

2023 Junior Summerspiel

2023 Junior Summerspiel
On display at Cape Cod Curling Club’s 2023 Junior Summerspiel was the future of curling.  Some of the competitors were teams that played on the national and international stage.  Some came out for their very first bonspiel.   All of them had a great time!

We hear time and time again that this bonspeil is where teammates are found and new friendships are forged.  This year was no exception.  The teams curled together, ate together, played cornhole together, swam together, and watched the sun set together.

The 2023 Junior Summerspiel was comprised of 11 teams from Maine to California.  The clubs represented at this year’s event were Ardsley, Belfast, Broomstones, Bucks County, Cape Cod, Capital, Eau Claire, Exmoor, Norfolk, Peachtree, Plainfield, Potomac, Silicon Valley, Wausau, and Windy City,

The Bonspiel started off Sunday, July 23, with 11 teams sorted into one 5 and one 6 team pool.  Over Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, each team played four games to be seeded into an 8 team playdown bracket that started Tuesday afternoon.   All throughout the bonspiel we were treated to not only some great curling, but some amazing sportsmanship.

The first event finals came down to Team Hebert and Team Cenzalli.  It was a close and hard fought game, but in the end Team Cenzalli took the win for their second consecutive year.  Our other two events were won by Team Vidaurrazaga (Second Event) and Team Neill (Third Event).

The first event winners, Team Cenzalli, was skipped by Nicholas Cenzalli with Vice Shaheen Bassiri, Second Cayden Kraft, and Lead Dylan Ciapka.
